Handymax/Supramax owners stay optimistic in Indian Ocean

Certain Handymax/Supramax rates have inched up in the Indian Ocean. Players report brisker shipments of iron ore and construction cargoes from Iran, which allows the owners of fleet to raise the rates in some cases given a positional shortage of vessels open for November 7-15 laycans. The Supramax time-charter bss DOP dely Fujairah via Iran redel China is already quoted by brokers within $17-18k daily, while the shipowners voice the ideas of $18-19k daily, and even above $20k daily. The rates for Supramax fleet bss DOP dely PG (non-Iranian ports) redel FEast now amount to $13-14k daily, while the owners of fleet want to get $15k daily. Meanwhile, Supramax rates bss DOP dely PG via PG redel India have stayed within $14-15k daily. The owners of such carriers also want to get $14-15k daily bss DOP dely WCI via PG redel India. Nevertheless, the deal bss DOP dely Hamriyah via PG redel India has been signed at $13.75k daily. The rates for Supramax fleet bss dely PG for inter PG trip now amount to about $13k daily. The time-charter for 20-30,000 dwt vessels bss dely PG redel China is now quoted by shipowners at least at $10k daily, while the charterers offer mere $8-9k daily. The deal for a Handymax carrier of 37-40,000 dwt bss APS dely ECI redel WAfr can now be signed at $8k daily, that for a Supramax ship at $9k daily. The voyage-basis contract for transportation of 50,000 t of limestone from Mina Saqr to the east coast of India has been fixed at $10/t, though the shipowners’ ideas are voiced at $11.5/t. Carrying 50-55,000 t of iron ore from Iran to northern China is quoted by brokers at about $17/t. The charterers are ready to pay $14/t for prompt shipment of 50,000 t of clinker from Bandar Khomeini to Maputo. The deal for transportation of 40,000 t of urea from Sur to Hazira with late October laycans has been fixed on subs at $10.85/t. Carrying 45,000 t of aggregates from Fujairah or Muscat to the east coast of India is negotiated at $10.5/t. The exporters offer $5/t for shipment of 50,000 t of the cargo from Sohar to Qatar with mid-November laycans (given l/d rates of 15,000 t fhinc bends). The transportation cost of 30-35,000 t of iron ore or sulphur from the Persian Gulf ports to southern China is now negotiated within $18-20/t. The suppliers are trying to ship 30,000 t of slag from Mundra to Qasim at $7/t (given l/d rates of 10,000 t shinc/6,000 t fhinc). Carrying 15,000 t of rice in big bags from Kandla to Chittagong or Mongla with November 20-25 laycans is negotiated at $20/t (given l/d rates of 2,000 t shex/1,500 t fhex).

Shipments from the South African ports are still rare, though the relevant rates have also grown slightly. The Supramax time-charter bss APS dely SAfr redel India/FEast is now quoted at $12.75k daily + $275k bb, while an Ultramax vessel can be chartered at $13-13.25k daily + $325k bb on the same basis. On the voyage-basis, carrying 50,000 t of coal from Richards Bay to the Persian Gulf ports is now quoted at $14.5-15/t, while the owners of fleet are voicing the ideas of $15-15.5/t.
