Supramax market flat and quiet in Baltic & Continent

The situation has not changed much in the Handysize/Supramax segment of the Baltic & Continent in mid-February. ISM sources continue to report the imbalance of cargo offer and tonnage supply in the region. The offer of steel scrap and fertilizers is slack. Therefore, the owners of vessels open in spot positions are increasingly considering the options of transferring their carriers to the Gulf of Mexico. The rates generally stay at last week’s levels in the region.

The rates for Supramax transportation of scrap bss dely Continent redel EMed still amount to $11-12k daily. Thus, a 58k-tonner has been fixed at 11k daily for scrap shipment bss DOP dely N.France via ARAG redel Turkey. Meanwhile, the owners of vessels violating INL or those operating from the freezing ports are still voicing rather high ideas. So, the rates for shipments of scrap by such vessels from this part of the basin are voiced at $14-15k daily. Players report small number of new scrap offers in the region; mainly previously contracted volumes are offered for transportation. Carrying 30-35,000 t of steel scrap with high sf from St. Petersburg to Iskenderun is quoted at $32-35/t. A 30,000 t lot of scrap from two Baltic ports to Turkey has been fixed at about $29/t. A Supramax vessel has been chartered just above $18.5k daily for transportation of fertilizers bss dely Baltic redel India. A similar carrier can be chartered at $6k daily for shipment to the Gulf of Mexico.
