Global CFI // week 1


Global CFI dropped by $0.65/t in last two weeks due to slackened trade and lower freight rates in almost all regions. The most significant slowdown has been seen in the sea-river market, where the Azov Sea CFI has fallen by $5.77/t. The BlSea CFI has decreased by $0.51/t, the WMed CFI by $0.47/t, the EMed CFI by $0.32/t. Coaster freight rates ex Gulf of Finland have dropped by $0.64/t, ex Lower Baltic by $0.4/t, ex North Sea ports by $0.43/t. The TCE for 3-7,000 dwt seagoing vessels has sagged by $0.2-0.3k daily, that for sea-river ships by $0.8-1.2k daily. Prices for IFO and MGO have surged by $25-40/t, putting additional pressure on owners. More precise outlook as for the near future of the freight market can be made after the commodity markets recover by mid-January.

CFI is the weighted average of voyage freight rates assessments on main trade routes for grain, steel, scrap, pig iron, coal, fertilizers, minerals and construction cargoes.
List of rates includes those for shipments of above mentioned commodities in 3,000-10,000 t lots.
