Pmx/Kmx owners still manage to strengthen their position in SE Asia


The situation remains favorable for Panamax/Kamsarmax owners in the southern part of the Asia-Pacific region. Despite the fact that cargo traffic has not perked up significantly compared with last week, balanced tonnage supply and cargo offer allow the owners to stand their ground. ISM sources also note strengthening outflow of fleet in ballast to the South America. Moreover, the owners are supported by continuing increase in short-period TC rates.

At present, the Panamax time-charter bss DOP dely S.China via Indo redel S.China is quoted by brokers at $11.5-12k daily, though some contracts are still fixed at $11k daily. A carrier of 75-76,000 dwt has been chartered at $11.5k daily bss DOP dely Yuhuan via Indo redel Spore-Japan. A Panamax vessel has been chartered bss DOP dely S.China via WAus redel Spore-Japan at $11.75k daily. At the same time, the owners’ ideas for Panamax fleet bss DOP dely CJK via Indo redel China are voiced within $12.5-13k daily. The rates for Panamax vessels bss DOP dely SEAsia on Indo RV are voiced by brokers at $15k daily. The charterers are ready to pay $12.5k daily for Kamsarmax carriers bss DOP dely CJK via Aus redel Spore-Japan. The rates for Kamsarmax ships bss DOP dely CJK via Aus redel India are negotiated at $13k daily. The deal for a Kamsarmax vessel bss DOP dely Fancheng via Indo redel India has been signed at $12.5k daily. A carrier of 81-82,000 dwt has been chartered bss DOP dely Hong Kong via Indo redel S.China at $13.75k daily. TCT rates for Post-Panamax cargo transportation bss DOP dely retro Qingdao via Indo redel S.China amount to $12k daily.

On the voyage-basis, the transportation costs of 65-70,000 t of coal from Taboneo to southern China are negotiated at $7/t. Carrying 70-75,000 t of the cargo from the same port to Chinese river ports with early March laycans is quoted by brokers within $7.5-8/t. The rates for shipment of 75,000 t of coal from Indonesia to western India are voiced within $9-9.5/t. The deal for transportation of 75,000 t of coal from Gladstone to Gangavaram with late March-early April laycans has been signed at $13.95/t. A similar cargo lot from eastern Australia to Vizag with March 15-24 laycans has been fixed at $15.15/t. Carrying 75,000 t of bauxite from Weipa to Qingdao with 2H March laycans is quoted by brokers at $10/t. The deal for shipment of 70,000 t of coal from Hay Point to Itaguai has been reportedly signed at $9.85/t.
