Growing vessel queues reported off Chinese coast

01.11.17

Around 102 vessels loaded with coal are standing idle off the southern and eastern coasts of China, Platts reports. This is a sharp increase from around 36 carriers in mid-September. The increase is referred to restrictions on coal imports introduced at several China’s major ports (including Guangzhou, Xiamen and Zhoushan) in late August.

Market sources have reported extensive delays and longer queues for ships arriving to discharge seaborne-traded thermal coal at several ports in China. Port authorities, including at Guangzhou, have, however, rejected claims that restrictions have been imposed on the discharge of imported coal at various ports.
