Pmx/Kmx TCT rates climbing up in Asia-Pacific region


Panamax/Kamsarmax rates have inched up in the southern part of the Asia-Pacific region. The owners of fleet are actively voicing higher ideas amid healthy cargo offer. They are supported by regularly coming requests for coal shipments from Indonesia to China and the Southeast Asian countries, as well as for transportation of ore cargoes from the west coast of Australia to the Far East. Meanwhile, the cargo flow from eastern Australia to India has temporarily slowed down this week (reportedly, due to holidays in India), though the importers’ demand remains generally strong. However, the owners of fleet are increasingly facing the charterers’ opposition; as a result, the rates have grown less significantly than last week.

The Panamax time-charter bss DOP dely S.China via Indo redel S.China is now quoted at $13.5-14k daily. Such vessel can be chartered at $13-13.5k daily bss DOP dely N.China via Indo/Aus redel FEast. The contract for a 73-74,000 dwt carrier bss DOP dely Hong Kong via Indo redel SEAsia has been fixed at $13.75k daily. A Panamax ship has been chartered at $13.5k daily bss dely retro Qingdao via Indo redel India. The deal for a 76-77,000 dwt vessel bss DOP dely Qingdao via Aus redel S.Korea has been signed at $13.7k daily. A Kamsarmax vessel has been chartered at $13.5k daily bss DOP dely Kunsan via Aus redel ECI. A Kamsarmax carrier has been chartered at $15.75k daily bss DOP dely Kakogawa on short Pacific RV. The deal bss DOP dely Xinsha via Aus redel Spore-Japan has been also signed at $15.75k daily. At the same time, Panamax/Kasmarmax ships open in the Southeast Asian ports are now chartered at least at $16k daily. In particular, the contract for a 79-80,000 dwt vessel bss DOP dely Pagbilao via Indo redel China has been fixed at $17k daily. The carrier of 87-88,000 dwt has been chartered on subs at $18k daily bss DOP dely Cai Mep via Geraldton redel China. The deal for a Post-Panamax ship bss DOP dely Spore via WAus redel SEAsia has been signed at $18.5k daily.

Most voyage-basis rates have stabilized at last week’s levels. The transportation cost of 70,000 t of coal from Taboneo to southern China is negotiated at $7-7.2/t. Shipments of 65-70,000 t of the cargo from Samarinda on the same route are quoted by brokers at $7.4-7.5/t. Carrying 70-75,000 t of coal from South Kalimantan to eastern India is still negotiated within $8-9/t. The contract for transportation of 75,000 t of the cargo from Hay Point to Vizag with November 1-7 laycans has been concluded at $16.55/t, though the charterers were initially offering $16.25/t.
